Portland Homeless Family Solutions: Where do we go from here?
We were thrilled at the overwhelming response to our February Call to Action for volunteers at the winter family shelter run by Portland Homeless Family Solutions. Dozens of staff members at member businesses stepped up to volunteer at this temporary shelter that was donated by member company project^.
We are grateful that our member Swift has offered to host a gathering for their employees and those of other companies who volunteered over the past couple months. After a half hour of networking, we'll have a short program to hear about policy and funding solutions currently before the state legislature that could address some of the drivers of homelessness. After all, as grateful as we are for our generous members, the goal should be to ensure that shelter volunteers are not even needed!
Other BBPDX members are welcome to join the networking and education session, too. Your engagement and voices are needed! We will be joined by Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal who will update us on how she and her colleagues at the County would benefit from the engagement of BBPDX members on critical issues before the legislature.
